Chandigarh, April 15: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has imposed a fine on Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane following a Code of Conduct breach during Tuesday’s match against Chennai Super Kings. Rahane was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, adding further disciplinary trouble to the team’s ongoing performance issues.

Since the incident marked the squad’s first over-rate offense of the current season, the BCCI assessed a penalty of INR 12 lakh. This action falls under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which governs the minimum over-rate requirements for participating teams.

“Rahane was fined INR 12 lakh,” the BCCI stated in an official release, noting the specific breach of the league’s disciplinary framework. This penalty makes Rahane the fourth captain to be sanctioned for timing issues this year, joining Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Ruturaj Gaikwad on the list of penalized leaders.

The disciplinary action coincides with a historically poor run for the 2024 champions. KKR remains winless after five games, a franchise first that has left them at the bottom of the standings. Following an opening loss to Mumbai Indians and a heavy defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team managed only a single point from a rain-affected draw with Punjab Kings. Recent losses to Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai have now extended their streak to six consecutive defeats dating back to last season.
