Chandigarh, April 24: The Punjab government’s sustained action against organized crime has resulted in more than 23,000 arrests over the last three months, according to state media officials. Baltej Pannu, the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab State Media In-charge, stated Friday that the “Gangstran Te Vaar” initiative has completed 92 days of active operations, reflecting the administration’s resolve to stabilize the region.

On the 92nd day of the drive alone, law enforcement personnel apprehended 254 individuals and recovered four illegal weapons. Pannu declared that the total number of arrests under this specific campaign has reached 23,140. He noted that while 79 individuals were detained for questioning during recent activities, 61 were released following a thorough investigation process.

The success of these operations stems from a partnership between the government and the citizenry. Pannu maintained that a confidential helpline, 93946-93946, has empowered the public to share information about wanted criminals without fearing for their safety. The Bhagwant Mann government had issued a public appeal seeking information about wanted gangsters, and citizens have actively responded, Pannu affirmed.

Simultaneously, the “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign against narcotics has crossed its 417th day. Pannu asserted that more than 60,000 drug smugglers have been arrested since the start of this anti-drug drive. Recent data shows that on the 417th day, police arrested 98 traffickers and seized 1.1 kilograms of heroin. These campaigns will continue with full force until Punjab is free from the menace of drugs and organized crime, Pannu stated.
