SONEPAT, MAY 16— A youth was shot dead in broad daylight outside the Kharkhoda courts complex in Sonepat district on Saturday after unidentified assailants ambushed his vehicle.
The deceased, identified as Neeraj, a native of Dubaldhan village in Jhajjar district and a resident of Sector 37-C in Gurugram, died on the spot. According to preliminary police reports, the victim had traveled to the complex to attend a scheduled legal hearing related to an ongoing marital dispute.
The attackers arrived in a vehicle and initiated the confrontation by intentionally ramming into Neeraj’s car near the complex gates. Immediately following the collision, the armed individuals exited their vehicle and opened fire on the victim at close range.
“The assailants came in a car and rammed into his, before opening fire,” a law enforcement official stated, adding that the perpetrators fired multiple rounds directly targeting the victim’s upper body before fleeing the scene.
Emergency response units and forensic teams from the regional police department arrived at the crime scene shortly after the incident to secure the perimeter and collect evidence. Investigators noted that the nature of the ambush suggests a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence.
Authorities stated that a formal investigation has been launched to trace the fleeing vehicle and establish the identity of the suspects. Police are currently checking security camera footage from the vicinity of the court complex and surrounding transit routes to track the escape vector.
