MAJITHA, MAY 17 — The Punjab government has removed Executive Officer Randeep Singh Waraich from his additional charge at the Municipal Council Majitha, acting on direct instructions from the Punjab State Election Commission ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

According to an official directive issued by the Local Government Department, Waraich, who remains stationed at the Municipal Council Tarn Taran, has been relieved of his responsibilities in Majitha with immediate effect. The administration has transferred the additional charge of the Majitha council to Executive Officer Anil Chopra, who will manage the duties alongside his current posting.

Administrative supervisors stated that the personnel change was executed to maintain structural neutrality during the ongoing electoral preparations. The orders, signed by Local Government Department Secretary Manjit Singh Brar, instruct the newly appointed officer to submit an official joining report at the station on or before May 18. Department representatives noted that the swift adjustment follows a formal communication received from the State Election Commission amid intensifying regional debates regarding local governance standards.

The administrative shift takes place during a period of heightened friction regarding the local verification processes for prospective election candidates. Opposition leaders asserted that the personnel change directly addresses their long-standing complaints regarding institutional fairness. Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia characterized the transfer as a positive step for democratic processes, stating that the previous administration had actively disrupted opposition campaigns by systematically withholding mandatory No Objection Certificates. He maintained that the removal of the official vindicates the formal grievances repeatedly filed by his party concerning municipal operations.
