MOHALI, MAY 29 — A birthday celebration in Adarsh Nagar Colony turned fatal on Wednesday night when a Balongi youth was stabbed to death and his two companions were seriously wounded during a violent knife attack.
The deceased, identified as Abhishek, suffered a fatal wound to his neck and died at the scene. His companions, Prashant and Jyotish, sustained severe deep cuts to their hands and legs during the altercation and were rushed to a medical facility in Chandigarh for urgent treatment. The alleged attacker, identified by authorities as Manish, fled the location immediately following the assault and remains at large.
According to local law enforcement, the trio had gathered at the colony to celebrate Prashant’s birthday. The gathering shifted focus when the friends decided to confront Manish regarding his history of directed verbal abuse against Prashant’s father. The encounter quickly escalated into violence when the group attempted to clarify the ongoing dispute.
“The suspect physically attacked Prashant the moment he was questioned about his behavior,” a Balongi police investigator stated. “When Abhishek stepped forward to protect his friend and break up the fight, the assailant pulled out a weapon and inflicted the fatal wound.”
Medical updates from local authorities indicated that Prashant was stable enough to be discharged from medical care on Thursday. His friend Jyotish, however, suffered more critical injuries and required a transfer to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research for specialized surgical intervention.
The local police station has initiated a formal homicide investigation and deployed teams to track down the suspect. “We have registered a case of murder against the accused,” Balongi SHO Periwinkle Grewal affirmed. “Our search units are actively tracking the fugitive, and an arrest will be secured shortly.”
