Chandigarh, June 13: Two masked gunmen opened fire outside a prominent medical store in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 market on Saturday afternoon, leaving a chemist critically injured and wounding two bystanders.
The primary target, identified by sources as the owner of Kumar Medicos, sustained multiple gunshot wounds when the attackers fired several rounds at point-blank range. Emergency responders rushed the shop owner and the two other injured individuals to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for immediate medical intervention.
The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Local police units cordoned off the market area outside the pharmacy to collect forensic evidence and examine security camera footage, though law enforcement administrators did not issue a formal press brief before the initial investigation commenced.
Sources stated that the medical store owner had previously received several threat calls from unknown individuals.
“Two youths had fired shots into the air outside Kumar Brothers Medicos back in 2017,” a local shopkeeper noted while recalling security concerns in the commercial area. “No one was harmed during that previous scare, but this time they clearly intended to cause severe harm.”
