Sangrur, July 21: A joint initiative by the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training alongside the Department of Industries has resulted in 562 candidates securing direct employment offers, with another 618 shortlisted during a regional Mega Job Fair in Sunam. Organized for youth across the Sangrur, Malerkotla, and Barnala cluster, the event brought together 2,129 job seekers and representatives from 61 prominent enterprises. Selected applicants received formal Letters of Intent at the venue, with offered monthly compensation packages ranging between 12,000 and 42,000 rupees based on candidate credentials and past experience.
The drive catered to a broad spectrum of educational backgrounds, extending opportunities to metric, secondary, trade diploma holders, and university graduates. Participating firms included notable industrial brands such as Sonalika, Mahindra Tractors, KRBL, Avani, A.P. Organics, Max, and Nahar Spinning.
Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora, who attended the gathering to review proceedings and speak with participating recruiters, asserted that state departments are actively aligning corporate hiring requirements with qualified local talent.
“Government jobs alone cannot provide employment to every young person,” Aman Arora stated. “Therefore, it is essential to create an ecosystem in which private industries and companies can also generate large-scale employment opportunities for the youth.”
Addressing the administration’s broader employment initiatives, the Minister affirmed that roughly 70,000 public sector appointments have been completed purely on merit over recent years. Responding to queries regarding technology sector expansion, he declared that Mohali continues to foster a strong technology cluster, while urban centers like Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar maintain growing employment numbers across digital and allied industries.
