Chandigarh, August 14: The Punjab Government announced an extension of its One-Time Settlement Scheme for clearing pending tax liabilities from the pre-GST period, moving the final application deadline to September 30. Introduced to resolve legacy tax disputes, the extension allows remaining eligible taxpayers an opportunity to obtain a hundred percent waiver on interest and penalties along with slab-wise relief on principal amounts.

Finance, Excise, and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the extension responds to requests from trade representatives and reflects public confidence in transparent tax management. Over nine thousand applications have already been received under the initiative, with substantial relief granted to local businesses.

The government seeks to maintain a balanced approach by providing genuine relief to commercial establishments while encouraging timely compliance before enforcement measures resume, the Taxation Department maintained, clarifying that the revised September deadline represents a strictly final opportunity.

Taxpayers facing outstanding pre-GST liabilities have been encouraged to utilize the extended window to settle accounts smoothly and avoid subsequent legal recovery proceedings.
