NEW DELHI, AUGUST 26: The Indian delegation to the United Nations has underscored the nation’s robust constitutional architecture, democratic accountability, and extensive public policy measures designed to advance equality and dignity for all citizens during a formal treaty review in Geneva. The proceedings, held on August 11-12, evaluated India’s combined 12th and 21st periodic reports submitted to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in 2023.
Detailing the nation’s participation, a statement issued by the Permanent Mission of India in Geneva noted that the interactive dialogue addressed the practical execution of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Representatives presented comprehensive updates regarding developmental progress among marginalized communities alongside target interventions created to counter social prejudice and intolerance.
Addressing the delegation’s focus, official representatives stated that the inter-ministerial presentation brought into focus India’s constitutional and legal safeguards, judicial remedies, and sustained socio-economic programs. Officials maintained that the country’s governance model continues to ensure equality, dignity, and opportunity across its vast scale and demographic complexity.
The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed that India maintains an enduring commitment to international anti-discrimination norms, pointing out that the nation actively participated in negotiating and drafting the historic treaty during the 1960s. Officials declared that India entered the treaty body review in a spirit of constructive engagement, keeping alignment with its ongoing efforts to safeguard fundamental rights across all segments of society.
