Mohali, August 26: Aam Aadmi Party MP from Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, expressed strong disapproval over the recent selective demolition of shops conducted by officials of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority in Saini Majra village, located within his parliamentary constituency. Reacting to the enforcement action against local shopkeepers, the lawmaker declared that the development body had become a den of corruption.
Addressing the issue, Malvinder Singh Kang affirmed that he received numerous calls from affected residents regarding the unfair nature of the drive. He stated that he spoke to GMADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Rishi late at night, maintaining that officers should act fairly by removing encroachments uniformly or giving adequate warnings to all. He declared that corrupt officers who accept bribes spare certain establishments while using the excavator against poor vendors who fail to pay, adding that he would lead a protest against the development authority if corrective action is not taken.
Directing his concerns to the Chief Minister, Malvinder Singh Kang maintained that corruption within the urban development body has increased and called for immediate transfers of the involved officials. He asserted that the administration must halt such harsh actions against small shopkeepers who rely on daily earnings to support their families.
The public stance marks a continuation of the MP’s independent positions on public and administrative matters in the state. In recent months, Malvinder Singh Kang has raised concerns regarding police action against protesting farmers in Bathinda, questioned illegal sand mining operations, and voiced reservations regarding central party decision-making alongside the state’s land pooling policy.
