CHANDIGARH — A delegation of Congress legislators led by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Monday to submit a formal memorandum regarding the alleged manhandling of party MLAs on August 27. The meeting followed a detailed session of the Congress Legislative Party to address security actions taken during their scheduled march to the Legislative Assembly.
The opposition members had planned a peaceful demonstration focusing on public issues including unemployment, inflation, law and order, and examination paper leaks. Party representatives asserted that security personnel deployed at the entry point reacted aggressively to the procession, forcibly stopping elected members who were advancing toward the house with placards. The memorandum highlighted that such actions undermine the established autonomy and dignity of the state legislature.
Addressing the aftermath of the incident, the delegation maintained that neither Speaker Harvinder Kalyan nor Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini provided clarifying responses during subsequent Assembly sessions. Bhupinder Hooda affirmed that photo and visual evidence documenting the event has been compiled to substantiate their claims. The party urged the Governor to review the circumstances surrounding the police response and initiate appropriate administrative action.
