The NRI wing of the Punjab Police registered a formal case against two Canadian citizens after an Indian-origin investor reported a financial loss of four crore rupees tied to a salon franchise expansion. Officials affirmed that investigators are verifying the roles of everyone cited in the complaint, including the salon chain’s founder, Munish Bajaj.
The action follows a detailed complaint by Inderjit Kaur Boparai, a Canadian citizen and Overseas Citizen of India cardholder. She stated that investors were encouraged to fund the Canadian expansion of the salon chain. According to her statement, funds were gathered for construction, store development, and inventory, but the promised outlets never materialized. She further maintained that at least six other investors across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia suffered similar outcomes under the venture agreement.
Addressing the development, Jagjit Singh Walia, Assistant Inspector General of Police for the NRI Wing, stated that the matter was formally registered after a preliminary inquiry. He asserted that the investigation remains active and that appropriate legal measures will follow based on full verification of the facts.
Responding to the allegations, Munish Bajaj declared that he had no involvement in any fraudulent activities. He maintained that he simply granted a franchise to the primary accused, who operated independently. He further asserted that he played no role in collecting investor funds, lacked access to the referenced agreement, and had already submitted an independent complaint regarding the matter to clarify his position.
