Chandigarh, Sept 23: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu questioned the continued silence of senior opposition leaders across Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party regarding serious criminal allegations involving Akali leader Amarjit Singh Chawla. Addressing media representatives in Chandigarh, Pannu stated that despite an First Information Report being registered at Anandpur Sahib police station following a complaint by a woman who arrived from Bahrain, top political figures have refrained from taking a public stance.
Pannu questioned why Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami have not taken decisive steps or communicated their position to the public. He maintained that despite Chawla submitting his resignation from SGPC positions, clarification is needed on whether the resignation has been officially processed. Pannu further stated that leaders who usually remain active in public debates have refrained from addressing the matter, raising questions about accountability and protection for the complainant.
The AAP spokesperson asserted that the public and international community are watching the response of state leaders to issues affecting administrative and social integrity. He urged the leadership of various political parties to clarify their positions directly rather than avoiding public questions.
