CHANDIGARH — The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday questioned Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami’s demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into a woman’s eight-month stay at an SGPC-run accommodation in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu urged the SGPC leadership to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation by the Punjab Police rather than transferring the case to a central agency. Pannu asked the religious body to explain a reported transfer of (₹1 lakh) from an SGPC account to the woman, along with the provision of a dedicated vehicle, a sewadar, and official coverage of her living expenses during her stay.
Pannu argued that since the primary evidence—including sarai registers, authorization forms, and financial ledgers—resides within the SGPC itself, seeking a CBI investigation is unnecessary. Drawing parallels to past inquiries handed over to central agencies, he cautioned against maneuvers that might delay or obscure accountability, emphasizing that the Sikh community expects complete transparency regarding events at the sacred shrine.
