Lucknow, Oct 3: The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated an extensive rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across key regional clusters through the Uttar Pradesh Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPREDA). Executed under the national PM E-DRIVE framework, the initiative targets 1,500 charging stations in its second phase, prioritizing the National Capital Region (NCR) and major freight corridors.

State authorities confirmed that 238 initial locations across 20 clusters have received administrative approval, with formal MoUs executed for 99 sites. In NCR areas, approved locations include 39 sites in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 35 in Meerut, and six in Ghaziabad. Outside NCR, charging nodes are set for major cities including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Agra, and Varanasi. Chief Secretary directives instruct all District Magistrates to promptly submit proposals for additional public sites—such as transit hubs, government complexes, educational institutions, and commercial spaces—to meet the remaining allocation targets.

Each standardized public charging hub will house two 60 kW DC fast chargers alongside a 12 kW AC/DC unit, ensuring reliable power delivery for diverse EV fleets.
