SANGRUR: In a swift administrative crackdown, the Sangrur district police suspended Station House Officer (SHO) Yashpal Sharma and detained two local residents following an incident where a visiting Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team was showered with flower petals and offered sweets.

The search operation was being conducted at the ancestral residence of Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in Gharachon village.

The unusual reception unfolded on Tuesday evening as central agency officials arrived to execute search warrants in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation. Local residents, along with political workers reportedly affiliated with opposition parties, gathered outside the premises to celebrate the arrival of the federal probe team.

Taking immediate note of the security oversight during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s concurrent official visit to the district, senior police authorities initiated disciplinary proceedings against the area SHO for negligence of duty and taken two individuals into custody for questioning.
