NEW DELHI, OCT 7: Actor Rajpal Yadav was granted a final extension until Tuesday, October 13, by the Supreme Court to fulfill a direction to deposit ₹2 crore as part-payment in an ongoing cheque bounce case.

The bench headed by CJI Surya Kant accepted a demand draft of ₹1.15 crore furnished by the actor and considered his plea for extra time to arrange the balance ₹85 lakh through a property sale. Cautioning him against non-compliance, the court observed that it retains the discretion to issue notice and enhance his punishment to two years of imprisonment.

During the proceedings, Yadav recounted his financial hardships following a 2010 loan taken for a film project, stating he incurred severe monetary losses exceeding ₹22 crore and lost significant professional ground due to extended litigation.

His counsel assured the court that the actor has resumed film work and directorship to meet his financial obligations.

Taking note of his statements and the buyer’s commitment to transfer the balance funds, the apex court observed that making good films and entertaining the public would naturally rebuild his standing, while directing strict adherence to the payment schedule.
