Chandigarh, Oct 13: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday affirmed that the state government will pursue every legal and constitutional avenue to secure the release of Sikh prisoners, commonly referred to as Bandi Singhs.
Following a crucial meeting in Chandigarh with representatives of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha, farm union leaders, and Sikh organizations, the Chief Minister maintained that the long-pending issue involving individuals who have undergone prolonged incarceration must not remain unresolved indefinitely.
CM Mann declared that the state government had already provided concrete assurances to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Governor regarding law and order maintenance if convict Jagtar Singh Hawara were granted parole to visit his ailing mother.
Expressing regret over the Centre’s delay in approving the parole request, the Chief Minister maintained that even a brief period of parole could set a precedent for peace and harmony in the region. He further stated that he would personally take up the parole cases of Paramjit Singh Bheora and Jagtar Singh Tara with the Governor of Punjab, who also serves as the Administrator of Chandigarh, while directing the State Advocate General to evaluate all legal options.
