KARNAL, OCT 15: A fresh spell of heavy morning rainfall severely disrupted agricultural operations and halted paddy procurement across key grain markets in Haryana, leaving large quantities of harvested grain soaked and standing crops flattened. The second major downpour within five days has intensified concerns among regional farming communities over deteriorating crop quality and extended delays in state purchasing.
Growers awaiting procurement expressed frustration as loose produce remained exposed to heavy showers, while already auctioned and bagged stocks received shelter under covered sheds. Agricultural association representatives affirmed that the recurring weather disruptions have reduced per-acre yields significantly, warning that farmers face compounding financial losses if processing units discount rates for moisture-affected grain.
In response to the growing operational deadlock, trade representatives and farming bodies called for urgent administrative intervention to mitigate losses. Regional associations maintained that authorities should provide suitable compensation for crop damage while granting flexible relaxations in permissible moisture thresholds to ensure smooth lifting and prevent further financial strain on growers.
