Chandigarh, November 27 – Member of Parliament Gurjit Singh Aujla met Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada today to discuss key trade initiatives, including reopening cross-border commerce with Pakistan. Aujla also expressed gratitude for the government’s approval of jewellery exports from Amritsar.
Highlighting the meeting’s agenda, Aujla emphasized the importance of enhancing trade routes in Amritsar, both through road and air. “We had detailed discussions about facilitating imports and exports via Wagah and Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport,” he stated, underlining the economic benefits such initiatives would bring to the border region.
Aujla advocated for the resumption of trade with Pakistan, particularly through the Wagah border, arguing it could significantly boost Amritsar’s economy.
He also called for government support to expand the capabilities of Amritsar’s international airport, enabling the efficient handling of increased cargo traffic.
Expressing his appreciation for the approval of jewellery exports, Aujla noted that the decision addressed a longstanding demand. “Continuous correspondence and collaborative efforts made this possible, and I am thankful for the positive outcome,” he said.
Jitin Prasada assured Aujla of further measures to support Amritsar’s development, promising solutions to existing challenges to enhance trade and infrastructure in the region.
