Chandigarh, 25 December 2024: The city experienced a rise in temperature as sunny weather pushed the maximum temperature from 13.7°C on Monday to 20.1°C on Tuesday, reaching the normal range for this time of year.

However, cold conditions are expected to intensify later this week with rain likely around December 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD officials predicted that the combination of increased moisture and recent clear weather could lead to moderate to dense fog in the coming days. “Fog was absent on Tuesday, but as it develops, day temperatures are likely to decrease,” an IMD official noted.

The minimum temperature dropped slightly, from 9.3°C on Monday to 8.4°C on Tuesday, remaining 1.4°C above normal. Forecasts for the next three days indicate maximum temperatures will range between 19°C and 20°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 6°C and 9°C.

Rain Improves Air Quality

Recent rain has significantly improved air quality in the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) fell to 150 on Tuesday, categorized as moderate by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This marks an improvement from earlier readings, which had exceeded 200 and fallen into the poor category.

While clear skies and improved air quality offered temporary relief, the upcoming rain and associated fog may usher in colder days, IMD officials warned.
