Chandigarh, 2 January 2025 – Major General Jagdeep Singh Cheema, additional director general (ADG) of the NCC Directorate covering Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, met with UT Adviser Rajeev Verma on Thursday to discuss the potential role of NCC cadets in combating the drug menace among students.
The meeting came a day after Cheema had discussed the deployment of NCC cadets in traffic management with Chandigarh’s DGP.
During the meeting at the UT Secretariat, Sector 9, Verma accentuated the importance of involving NCC cadets in educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse. “The cadets can play a pivotal role in educating the youth and fighting the growing drug problem,” Verma said.
Maj Gen Cheema expressed his full support for the idea, agreeing that the cadets could effectively contribute to such causes.
He also invited Verma to the upcoming flag-off ceremony for the NCC’s cycle rally, “Bharat Ke Veer: Ek Shaurya Gatha,” which will take participants from Hussainiwala to New Delhi. Cheema assured continued cooperation with the UT administration on these initiatives.
