Sri Muktsar Sahib, 12 January 2025: A clash broke out between alleged three members of the Lawrence gang and the police in Sri Muktsar Sahib on Saturday night around 10:30 pm.
The three suspects, who arrived on a motorcycle, were attempting to collect a ransom from Sadhu Ram, a contractor at Setia Paper Mill Rupana. During the confrontation, shots were exchanged from both sides, resulting in one of the assailants being shot in the leg.
The police successfully arrested all three suspects.
The incident stemmed from a series of threatening calls to Sadhu Ram, who had reported the extortion attempt to the police. Two days earlier, he had received multiple WhatsApp calls from an unknown number, during which the caller eventually demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
After further negotiations with the police, the amount was lowered to Rs 15 lakh, and the location for the exchange was set at Lubaniawali village on Ferozepur Road.
SSP Tushar Gupta confirmed that a trap had been set in advance to apprehend the criminals.
When the suspects arrived, they opened fire, prompting the police to return fire.
One suspect was injured and fell, while the other two fled but were quickly captured.
All three individuals are believed to be key members of the Lawrence gang. Police are continuing their interrogation and expect further revelations.
