Dubai, 18 January 2025: India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19 in Dubai, has been revealed, with Rohit Sharma as captain.
The team, announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, includes pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and newcomer Arshdeep Singh.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced Shubman Gill as vice-captain for both the Champions Trophy and the preceding ODI series against England. Gill was also part of India’s 2023 ODI World Cup campaign.
Arshdeep Singh Replaces Siraj: Arshdeep Singh has been selected as the third seamer, replacing Mohammed Siraj. Primarily a T20 bowler, Arshdeep has played just eight ODIs, taking 12 wickets. His inclusion marks a rare opportunity for a left-arm pacer in an ICC event, a first in nine years for India. Arshdeep’s performance in two T20 World Cups and recent domestic matches makes him a prospect to watch.
Shami Returns, Jaiswal Retained: Mohammed Shami, who last played in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, returns to the ODI setup after his strong performance.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who impressed with his form in 2024, retains his spot as a backup opener. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav also secured his position.
India aims to begin their campaign on a strong note in Dubai, hoping this squad balances experience with youthful energy.
