Chattarpur, 23 February 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on those he accused of “dividing society” and “mocking India’s religious and cultural traditions.”

Speaking at Chattarpur, Madhya Pradesh, while laying the foundation stone for the Bageshwar Dham Medical and Science Research Centre, Modi said there are efforts, both internal and external, to weaken India by targeting its faith and unity.

“Nowadays, we see a group of leaders who mock religion, ridicule it, and try to divide people. Many times, foreign powers support them in an attempt to weaken the country and its beliefs,” he said. “People who hate the Hindu faith have existed for centuries. Those trapped in a mentality of slavery keep attacking our temples, traditions, and values. Their agenda is to break our society and weaken its unity,” he added.

The prime minister praised Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Krishna Shastri for promoting unity. “In these times, Dhirendra Shastri has been making people aware of the mantra of unity. Now, he has taken another step in the interest of society and humanity by planning this cancer institute. Here, in Bageshwar Dham, people will find blessings through bhajan, food, and a healthy life,” he said.

Criticism Over Maha Kumbh Mismanagement
PM Modi’s remarks come amid criticism of the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over alleged mismanagement at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Opposition leaders, including RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have raised concerns over crowd control and safety at the event.

Modi, however, defended the Maha Kumbh, calling it a symbol of India’s unity. “The gathering in Prayagraj will continue to strengthen India’s unity,” he asserted.
