Two Earthquakes Shake Manipur, No Damage Reported

Imphal, March 5 — Two earthquakes measuring 5.7 and 4.1 struck Manipur on Wednesday within an hour, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Manipur centre. No damage was reported.

The first tremor hit at 11:06 a.m., followed by another at 12:20 p.m. The IMD identified Kamjong district as the epicenter for both. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the second quake as a magnitude 4.1 event at a depth of 66 km near Bishnupur.

“We felt the first earthquake in our office,” said an official at a central government facility near Imphal airport.

Earlier in the day, Myanmar also experienced two mild earthquakes. The NCS recorded a 4.7-magnitude quake at 3:36 a.m., followed by a 4.5-magnitude tremor at 3:54 a.m.
