Chandigarh, Feb 8: Aam Aadmi Party leader Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has challenged the BJP to explain how the new trade agreement with the United States benefits the Indian agricultural sector. During a briefing on Sunday, Dhaliwal claimed the deal allows the US to find a massive dumping ground for its surplus farm produce at the expense of local growers.
Dhaliwal directed sharp criticism toward BJP leader Sunil Jakhar, accusing him of prioritizing political loyalty over the welfare of farmers. He mentioned that while the opposition claims AAP is silent, the party has been raising objections since the day the deal was made public.
“Speak for farmers, not for your political masters,” Dhaliwal said, referring to Jakhar. He noted that the trade imbalance is stark, with Indian goods now facing 18 percent tariffs while American products receive nearly free entry into Indian markets.
The spokesperson mentioned that the dairy and grain sectors are particularly vulnerable. He noted that if American red sorghum and dairy products flood the market, farmers across Punjab, Haryana, and Maharashtra will face bankruptcy.
“The US has found the world’s biggest market for its surplus farm produce. But where will our farmers go? Who will answer this?” Dhaliwal asked. He mentioned that the party will continue to expose what he described as an anti-farmer conspiracy.
