CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party launched a strong counter-offensive against the Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday, with AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu releasing photographs to expose alleged political links between Akali leaders and key figures in recent controversies. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Pannu stated that the opposition campaign targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and his family relies on unverified, unestablished claims. He declared that character assassination has become the sole strategy for opposition leaders who lack substantive answers to the developmental track record of the state government.
During the media briefing, Pannu presented photographs showing Amardeep Grewal alongside senior BJP figures and Guri Chahal in close proximity to Akali leaders, including Sukhbir Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Bikram Singh Majithia. He questioned why Akali leaders were taking delegations to the Governor instead of clarifying their own personal and political associations with these individuals. Turning his focus to Bikram Singh Majithia, the AAP media head demanded accountability regarding his past links with Satta and Pindi, while also raising questions about the sudden expansion of Majithia’s wealth and business interests over the years.
Pannu asserted that the public retains vivid memories of the administrative breakdown during the 2007-2017 Akali tenure, particularly regarding the proliferation of the drug crisis. He maintained that the opposition is resorting to personal attacks because it cannot dispute the governance milestones achieved under the current administration. Pannu highlighted key state initiatives, including free electricity up to 600 units, the ₹10 lakh cashless healthcare scheme, and the major expansion of canal irrigation usage from 21% to 80%, affirming that the government remains focused on public welfare despite opposition rhetoric.
