Dhani Sucha Singh, December 30: Harpinder Singh (25), son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Darshan Singh, died after sustaining a gunshot wound at his home in Dhani Sucha Singh village, near the Abohar bypass. He was cremated later in the village.
According to Sadar Police Station officials, CCTV footage showed a loaded pistol tucked into Harpinder’s waistband accidentally discharged while he was sitting with relatives on a sofa. The bullet struck him in the stomach, causing severe injuries.
He was rushed to the local government hospital and later referred to a higher medical facility in Bathinda. However, he succumbed to his injuries during the transfer.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Civil Hospital, and the body was handed over to the family after legal formalities under Section 194 of the BNS. The police visited the house to examine CCTV footage and recorded statements from relatives, including his father.
Darshan Singh, recently elected as an AAP candidate in the Balluana Panchayat Samiti elections, expressed his grief over the tragic incident. Balluana MLA Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir also condoled the death of Harpinder Singh, describing it as a “heartbreaking loss.”
The police said the incident is being treated as accidental, and no foul play has been reported.
