CHANDIGARH — Student outfit ASAP, associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, declared on Monday that it will file a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the Panjab University election results and the eligibility of winning ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan. Movement leaders maintained that serious objections regarding the candidate’s academic record, alleged Unfair Means case, and document validity were submitted to the university administration prior to polling, yet the election proceeded without a formal inquiry.
Union representatives asserted that the university administration failed to enforce standard electoral guidelines governing student polls. “If the rules are the same for all students, how can they be different for a candidate of a certain political organisation?” ASAP spokespersons maintained. Representatives declared that Bidhan had faced academic disqualifications between 2023 and 2025 following a disciplinary case, raising fundamental questions about his subsequent admission to a PhD program and his right to contest under Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
Legal representatives for the student organization affirmed that the court petition will seek a comprehensive judicial inquiry into the submitted credentials and administrative inaction. Representatives declared that conducting elections while ignoring pre-election complaints undermines the overall integrity of the student democratic process. Leaders stated that victory declarations cannot be treated as final truth when foundational eligibility requirements remain under dispute.
University officials have not issued a formal public response regarding the planned legal challenge. ASAP leaders affirmed that their legal action aims to establish uniform application of electoral rules across all student outfits, regardless of national political affiliations.
