Chandigarh, Dec. 9, 2025 — Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has accelerated development in rural areas, with infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social initiatives transforming village life ahead of the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.
The government has completed a 44,920-kilometer link road network, reducing transportation costs and connecting villages to markets and emergency services. “Improved connectivity is now the backbone of our rural economy,” a senior state official said.
Over 60,000 government jobs have been created, many for rural youth, while village schools have been upgraded as Schools of Eminence, aiming to provide quality education on par with urban centers.
Healthcare access has expanded with Mohalla Clinics offering free diagnostics and medicines. Residents previously reliant on distant cities now have treatment close to home. Officials say nearly half of Punjab’s villages are now drug-free, supported by government-led rehabilitation programs. Meanwhile, 3,100 playgrounds are being built to promote youth sports and community engagement.
Observers say these initiatives are likely to shape voting patterns in local elections. Political analyst Ramesh Chawla said, “Rural voters are responding to tangible development. This government’s work in infrastructure, jobs, healthcare, and social reforms will influence support in the upcoming elections.”
