ABVP’s Sohal to meet Haryana CM Saini after PU win

Chandigarh, Sept. 4 — A day after scripting history in the Panjab University Students’ Council elections, newly elected President Gaurav Veer Sohal of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is scheduled to meet Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini today to discuss the future strategy for Panjab University and possible reforms.

For the first time, ABVP — the student wing of the BJP — has secured the president’s post in Panjab University. In previous elections, the organization had managed to win the joint secretary’s seat on several occasions but had never crossed the line for the top position until Wednesday’s polls.

Sohal’s immediate engagement with Haryana’s Chief Minister has triggered political speculation. Observers noted that Haryana has long asserted its claim over Panjab University, and the timing of the meeting has raised questions over whether Saini played a strategic role in ABVP’s victory.

“ABVP’s win is historic in the campus politics of PU, but the swift invitation from the Haryana Chief Minister adds another layer to the story,” a senior faculty member said, requesting anonymity.

Sources close to the development mentioned that Sohal and Saini are expected to deliberate on ways to “bring about changes” in the functioning of the university. The agenda reportedly includes strengthening student support systems, academic initiatives, and a roadmap for ABVP’s role on campus in the coming year.

Political circles in Chandigarh are closely watching the move. Some see it as routine outreach by a state leader to a student representative, while others suggest it reflects Haryana’s continuing push to exert influence over Panjab University.

The meeting, coming less than 24 hours after ABVP’s breakthrough win, has left many wondering if Saini’s political strategy extended into the student elections themselves.
