Mohali, 28 May 2025 – Mohali police have arrested Ankit Rana, a key accused in the May 15 firing incident outside music producer Pinky Dhaliwal’s residence, from Yamunanagar, Haryana. He was apprehended on May 22 following a nearly 10-km-long chase aided by human intelligence and CCTV surveillance.
Rana, a former delivery boy, is allegedly linked to the Kala Rana gang and has a previous snatching case registered in Yamunanagar. According to SP Saurav Jindal, he was riding a stolen motorcycle from Haridwar when he and an accomplice first opened fire at the Flying Centre International Centre in Yamunanagar for extortion and later targeted Dhaliwal’s house in Mohali.
Investigators believe Rana drove the bike while the pillion rider fired shots after making an extortion call to the music producer. He has been booked under Sections 109(1), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, and was remanded to police custody till May 29.
Efforts are on to nab the second accused involved in the firing.
