PHUKET/NEW DELHI, June 13: An Air India flight (AI 379) en route from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi made an emergency landing on Friday after receiving a bomb threat mid-air, Thai airport authorities confirmed.
The aircraft, which took off at 9:30 am local time, circled over the Andaman Sea before returning and landing safely back at Phuket International Airport, according to Flightradar24 data.
All 156 passengers were safely escorted off the plane under emergency protocols, an official from Airports of Thailand said. The nature and source of the threat were not disclosed, and the matter is under investigation by Thai and Indian security agencies.
Air India has yet to issue an official statement, but airport sources said a thorough security sweep of the aircraft and luggage scanning was under way. Authorities are treating the incident with “the highest level of caution.”
