Amritsar, Sept 9 – Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj has convened a special meeting of Sikh organisations and NGOs engaged in flood relief work at the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) headquarters on September 13.

In a statement, the jathedar said Punjab was passing through a grave crisis due to floods. He lauded Sikh organisations, institutions, groups, and Punjabi artistes for their immediate relief efforts, calling their service a reflection of the state’s spirit of Chardi Kala nurtured by the Sikh Gurus.

He rasied the need for coordinated and policy-based long-term relief. “Relief material must be distributed in a planned way, and long-term service must continue so that the donations and contributions of supporters are not wasted or misused,” he said. The jathedar added that rebuilding homes, reviving education and healthcare, and supporting agriculture and animal husbandry would be essential for resettlement.

He also called for a serious investigation into the causes of recurring floods in Punjab to ensure preparedness in future.

Akal Takht secretariat in-charge Bagicha Singh said the meeting will be held at noon on September 13 at the SGPC headquarters, with one representative from each organisation requested to attend to enable smooth coordination of relief efforts.
