Amritsar, 7 January 2025: The Akal Takht has voiced concern about the worsening health of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) President Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast-unto-death at the Punjab-Haryana border for more than 40 days.

Dallewal, also the convener of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political), is demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) and resolution of unaddressed farm-related issues.

Speaking at the Golden Temple yesterday during the birth anniversary celebration of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh condemned the situation. “While hunger strikes are not aligned with Sikh principles, it is unacceptable that in a democratic nation, the ‘anndata’ (food providers) are forced to protest like this for their rightful dues,” he stated.

Dallewal’s prolonged fast amidst freezing temperatures at the Khanauri border has severely impacted his health, leading to critical kidney and liver complications.

Despite medical interventions urged by the Punjab Government and Supreme Court directives, the 70-year-old leader has repeatedly declined medical aid.

The Jathedar appealed to the government to meet the farmers’ demands. “It is imperative for the authorities to listen and resolve these issues so that the protesting farmers can return home in peace,” he urged.
