Ambala, Feb 12: A late-night road accident in Ambala has resulted in the death of 24-year-old Nikita Bajaj after a car driven by a police head constable allegedly rammed into an e-rickshaw. The victim was crushed under the wheels of the car after being ejected from the rickshaw due to the force of the rear-end impact.

The driver of the car, an official with the Haryana Police, was caught at the spot by onlookers and is currently in custody. Relatives of the victim have raised serious allegations regarding the officer’s condition, claiming he was driving under the influence of alcohol. They noted that the fatal injuries were a direct result of reckless driving.

“The impact caused Nikita to fall out of the vehicle,” noted Ravinder Singh, the e-rickshaw driver, who mentioned that the car struck them while they were moving toward the city.

Nikita had returned to her hometown from Gurugram on Wednesday to spend time with her family. Her brother, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the strike, survived the incident. The local community has expressed outrage over the event, congregating at the Civil Hospital to demand transparency in the investigation.

The police have mentioned that the driver was handed over to them by the public and that a thorough probe is underway. They noted that all legal procedures, including a medical examination of the apprehended head constable, are being followed to address the allegations made by the victim’s family.

Security personnel were deployed to the hospital to manage the crowd and ensure that the situation did not escalate further. Authorities mentioned that the investigation will look into the speed of the vehicle and the state of the driver to ensure accountability for the loss of life.
