Another Held in Batala Grenade Case

NEW DELHI, July 27 — The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested another accused in the Batala police station grenade attack case, deepening the probe into alleged links with the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Karanbir, 22, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab, was taken into custody following specific intelligence inputs pointing to his location. He is believed to be a key operative of BKI and suspected to have played a significant role in the April 2025 grenade attack on Quila Lal Singh police station in Batala.

“He is suspected to have played a role in the April 2025 attack and was currently wanted in a case of arms trafficking,” a senior Delhi Police officer said, adding that further interrogation is underway.

The arrest comes just a week after another suspect, Akashdeep Singh alias Bazz (22), was picked up from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Singh is also allegedly associated with BKI and linked to the same incident.

The attack, which occurred earlier this year, involved unidentified persons hurling a grenade at the Batala police station in Gurdaspur district. While there were no casualties, the incident triggered high alert across Punjab.

Soon after the explosion, a post surfaced on social media claiming responsibility for the act. The message was purportedly uploaded by known BKI operatives — Happy Passiya, Mannu Agwan, and Gopi Nawanshahria — who also issued threats against Delhi, prompting a nationwide alert.

The anti-terror unit of the Delhi Police had launched a swift investigation, placing suspected individuals under close surveillance. It was during this sustained operation that officers tracked Karanbir’s movements, leading to his arrest in Punjab.

“More details will be shared in due course,” the officer added, indicating that further arrests could follow as the probe continues.
