Chandigarh, October 29, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Inspector Gurinder Singh on bribery charges in Patiala district. Singh, a Punjab Police inspector, allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to avoid implicating a local resident in a false Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case.

According to a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint from Pooja, a resident of Rohti Pull village in Nabha, Patiala. Pooja claimed Singh initially demanded Rs 3 lakh from her father under threat of implicating him in a false case, later settling for Rs 1.5 lakh. She alleged that Singh accepted an initial installment of Rs 50,000 on Sunday.

The Vigilance Bureau, after preliminary investigation, organized a sting operation, apprehending Singh while he accepted an additional Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. Two government witnesses were present to corroborate the transaction.

A case has been registered against Singh under the Anti-Corruption Act in the Patiala range. Vigilance officials confirmed Singh would be presented in court tomorrow as the investigation continues.
