Kapurthala, June 8 — In a daring early morning heist, five armed men looted Singh Jewellers in Sarafa Bazaar on Sunday, making off with a safe reportedly containing gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. near a local bank, when the suspects arrived in a car and overpowered the market’s night guard, identified as Bahadur, at gunpoint. They then forced open the shutter of the jewellery shop, owned by Ajay Kumar, and escaped with the store’s main safe.
According to the shop owner, the stolen safe contained around 50 tolas of gold and 20 kilograms of silver.
Police were alerted soon after the robbery. Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepkaran Singh and officers from the City Police Station reached the scene and launched an investigation. “We are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to track the suspects,” said DSP Singh.
Authorities are also questioning possible witnesses and scanning likely escape routes. While no arrests have been made yet, police believe surveillance footage may yield vital clues in identifying the culprits.
The brazen robbery has left local traders shaken, prompting calls for increased night-time patrolling in the busy commercial hub.
