CHANDIGARH, Sept 30: Chandigarh Police have arrested a weapon dealer from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, for allegedly supplying the country-made pistol used by a teenager to murder his father, Chandigarh Police Head Constable Nitin Singh, in Sector 22.
The arrested arms supplier, identified as Mohammad Shaheen, a carpenter who allegedly ran an illegal firearms trade on the side, was remanded to four days of police custody by a local court. Investigations revealed that the victim’s son, Armaan, had procured the illegal weapon from Shaheen approximately 10 days before executing the crime. The court also extended Armaan’s police remand by an additional four days to allow investigators to complete detailed questioning.
During interrogation, Armaan confessed that he had planned to murder both his parents to inherit their family property, which included land in Panchkula and a house in Zirakpur. Police officials stated that the accused had wanted to marry a partner, but when his parents urged him to delay the decision, he plotted the killings expecting to claim the ancestral assets.
Investigators noted that after fatally shooting his father in the head following an argument early on September 25, Armaan also attempted to strangle his mother. She managed to escape to the roof and raise an alarm, leading to his apprehension. Further probes are underway to determine if the Haridwar-based arms dealer supplied illegal weapons to other buyers across the region.
