TARAORI, MAY 19 — In a serious security breach, unidentified individuals attempted to break into the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch located in the new grain market area of Taraori by drilling a hole in the rear wall beneath a window, police said Monday.
The attempted theft came to light early Monday morning when bank staff arrived to open the branch and discovered evidence of forced entry. “We received information about an attempted theft at PNB’s Taraori branch around 8 a.m.,” said SHO Nasib Singh. “A forensic expert accompanied us to the scene, where we collected evidence and assessed the situation.”
According to initial findings, the intruders breached the bank premises by breaking through a section of the rear wall. Investigators noted signs of tampering with a passbook printing machine, and a tablet device was found missing. No cash loss has been reported at this stage.
“A tablet is unaccounted for. We are conducting a full audit to determine if anything else is missing,” said Devender, a bank official. “We are cooperating with the authorities, and further updates will be shared once the audit is complete.”
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) joined local police to inspect the crime scene and gather material evidence. CCTV footage from the premises is also being examined for potential leads.
Police said the attempt appears to have been carefully planned, and the probe is considering multiple angles. “At this point, no suspects have been identified. We are exploring all possibilities,” added SHO Singh.
Bank authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the total impact of the breach, though internal reviews are ongoing.
The investigation remains active, and security around the branch has been temporarily heightened.
