Jaipur/Chandigarh, 21 October 2024: Authorities on Sunday tore down part of an illegally constructed building on temple land, allegedly built by a father and son who had been arrested for stabbing 10 Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers during a Sharad Purnima event just three days earlier.
The violent attack occurred Thursday night, when Naseeb Chaudhary, his son Bheesham, and others assaulted RSS workers with “knives and other weapons” during a religious “jagran” program held on the temple premises. According to local residents, the altercation began after neighbors voiced their frustration with the noise and large crowd late into the night.
Residents also accused Naseeb Chaudhary of encroaching on a portion of temple and park land, where he had allegedly built a small structure without authorization. Following the stabbing, which left six people hospitalized and sparked protests in the Karni Vihar area, the Jaipur Development Authority’s enforcement wing conducted a survey of the site. On Friday, a notice was served to Chaudhary, demanding a response within 24 hours regarding the illegal construction.
While the police took Naseeb, his wife Nirmala, and their son Bheesham into custody on Friday for their role in the stabbing, the Jaipur Development Authority acted swiftly. By Sunday, two rooms of the unauthorized building, reportedly erected on the temple land by the Chaudharys, were demolished.
“The structure was in clear violation of land use, and after the stabbing incident, swift action was necessary,” said an official from the development authority. The incident has heightened tensions in the area, with residents emphasizing the need for accountability and proper action against illegal encroachments.
