MOHALI, Jan 17 — Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation following a Rs 10-crore ransom demand made against renowned Bollywood and Punjabi singer B Praak. The threat was reported by fellow artist Dilnoor, who received the chilling ultimatum via a series of international phone calls and a voice message.
The caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi, claiming to be an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang operating from abroad. Dilnoor mentioned in his complaint to the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police that the caller gave a one-week deadline for the payment, warning of dire consequences if the demand was not met.
“The caller warned that the threat should not be taken lightly,” the singer mentioned in his written statement to authorities.
The ordeal began on Jan. 5 when Dilnoor noticed missed calls from an overseas number. After answering a second call the following day, he received a suspicious voice message explicitly targeting B Praak. The complainant noted that the caller insisted he relay the message to his friend immediately.
Police officials said the investigation is currently underway to trace the origin of the calls. This incident follows a disturbing trend of extortion attempts and firing incidents linked to the same gang across the region. B Praak, famous for hits like “Teri Mitti” and “Ranjha,” has not yet issued a personal statement.
