CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu launched a sharp attack on the Badal family, accusing them of transforming the historic Akali Dal from a Panthic movement based on sacrifice into a family-owned entity. Addressing a press conference, Baltej Pannu asserted that the Badal leadership had systematically captured Sikh institutions to serve personal and political interests, eroding the historical significance of the Panthic front.
Referring to the recent FIR involving former SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla, Baltej Pannu raised serious questions regarding how a woman was accommodated for months at an SGPC-run sarai in Sri Anandpur Sahib. He questioned who granted such extensive facilities, why Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer and Virsa Singh Valtoha were involved, and what specific action SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami took on the woman’s complaint. Baltej Pannu further noted that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had excommunicated Amarjit Singh Chawla and an SGPC employee from the Khalsa Panth following the controversy. He called upon Sikh intellectuals and the public to raise their voices against the misuse of religious institutions.
