Patiala, 10 January 2025: In response to growing concerns over the misuse of Pregabalin, the District Magistrate of Patiala, Sakshi Sahni, has ordered a complete ban on the sale and storage of Pregabalin capsules/tablets above 75 mg.
The decision comes after reports of widespread abuse of the 150 mg and 300 mg formulations, which are often misused despite not being classified as narcotics or psychotropic substances.
Sahni stated that, while Pregabalin 75 mg is occasionally prescribed by doctors, higher doses are rarely recommended by medical professionals, including neurologists and orthopedists.
The ban mandates that wholesalers, retailers, and medical stores are prohibited from selling doses exceeding 75 mg without a genuine doctor’s prescription.
“All records for purchases and sales, including vendor slips, will be meticulously tracked to ensure compliance,” said Sahni.
The move aims to curb the rising addiction to the drug, ensuring that its sale is strictly controlled and documented.
