Dhaka: Bangladesh has recalled its High Commissioner to India, Mustafizur Rahman, signalling a possible foreign policy shift following the end of Sheikh Hasina’s regime on August 5.

Rahman is one of six diplomats withdrawn from various global postings. Other diplomats recalled include envoys from the UN, the UK, Belgium, Australia, and Portugal.

A letter from the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry, signed by Director General Mohammad Nazmul Haque, did not explain the reason for Rahman’s recall but instructed him to return to Dhaka immediately.

Hasina’s regime ended amid violent street protests in Dhaka that left over 50 people dead. Facing mounting pressure, Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5, landing at Hindon Air Base near New Delhi.

On August 8, an interim government led by Nobel Peace laureate Mohammad Yunus was sworn in.
