BARNALA — Barnala Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh ordered the immediate clearance and transformation of two neglected locations in Dhilwan Dakhan village into a public park and a children’s sports ground as part of the state’s anti-narcotics campaign.

The administrative action followed a formal representation by Dhilwan (South) village Sarpanch Harwinder Singh Khalsa, who pointed out that overgrown vegetation and abandoned municipal spaces were vulnerable to illicit activities while the village lacked proper sports infrastructure.

Under the state-led ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ framework, local governance bodies are actively working alongside district authorities to convert vulnerable areas into constructive community hubs.

“Reclaiming neglected public spaces can reduce opportunities for illicit activities like drug abuse, and setting up recreational facilities can encourage youngsters to participate in sports and constructive community activities,” district officials noted.

The proposed development will clear overgrown plots to provide children with a dedicated outdoor athletic area while creating a shared recreational space for local residents, reinforcing grassroots preventative strategies against substance abuse across the district.
