Faridkot, Feb 13: The Punjab government has officially designated Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, as the controlling authority for all pharmacy and healthcare courses across the state. This administrative shift moves the oversight of these programs away from the Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training with immediate effect.
Under this restructuring, healthcare courses previously managed by IKG Punjab Technical University and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, now fall under the academic and administrative jurisdiction of BFUHS. The move is designed to centralize medical education to enhance service delivery and academic rigor.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajiv Sood noted that the realignment aligns with the university’s legal statutes, which mandate that BFUHS oversee health-related education. “This change will lead to better governance, higher academic standards, and improved outcomes for students pursuing healthcare, paramedical, and pharmacy education,” Dr. Sood mentioned.
In a related move to bridge the gap between education and clinical care, the state government has handed over four major health institutions to the university. These include the Civil Hospitals in Badal and Sri Khadur Sahib, the Community Health Centre in Jalalabad, and the Tertiary Cancer Care Centre in Fazilka. BFUHS will now manage the infrastructure and staffing for these facilities while using them for clinical training.
Dr. Sood also said that the university has filled numerous long-standing vacancies and is modernizing infrastructure to attract skilled professionals. He further mentioned that the university is actively expanding the government nursing education sector to meet rising demand.
