Sonipat, March 15 — A BJP leader was shot dead in Haryana’s Sonipat on Holi night over a land dispute. Surendra, Mundlana Mandal president and village numberdar, was killed in Jawahara village, police said.

CCTV footage captured the attack, showing the accused, Monu, approaching Surendra outside his house and opening fire.

As Surendra ran into a grocery shop, Monu followed and fired again, shooting him in the forehead and stomach before fleeing.

Surendra’s wife, Komal, told police that Monu had threatened him over a land deal involving Monu’s relatives. “He warned my husband not to step on the land,” she said, adding that Surendra had plowed the field before the attack.

Police registered a murder case on Komal’s statement and sent the body to Bhagat Phool Singh Government Women’s Medical College for post-mortem.

“Three teams were formed, and the accused was arrested,” said ACP Rishikant. Investigations are ongoing.
